PCGI governs rock climbing guide training and assessment standards in the USA. PCGI certification is a nationally recognized standard recognized as a requirement for rock climbing guides and/or instructors obtaining permits by the U.S. Department of the Interior - National Park Service as follows: Joshua Tree National Park, New River Gorge and Devils Tower National Monument. The Professional Climbing Guides Institute (PCGI) is also registered with and accepted by the U.S. Department of the Treasury as a 501 c3 non-profit public charity. More detailed Information on the PCGI training and assessment standards can be found via the link below to the PCGI national web site: www.climbingguidesinstitute.org Nick Farley of The Gunks Guide is a certified PCGI Multi-Pitch Guide and sits on the PCGI Technical Development Committee and Board of Directors. He is approved as a PCGI mentor and assessor. Nick Farley via The Gunks Guide climbing school and guide service independently provides PCGI approved courses and assessments. Important Note: All PCGI assessments for certification are separate undertakings from PCGI courses. Due to the extremely high assessment for certification standards PCGI upholds; after completing any level of PCGI course and prior to taking any level of PCGI assessment, we advise our students to continue a 2-3 year period of ongoing skills practice as well as continuing to be involved in full time professional guiding. Completing PCGI courses will not certify individuals as PCGI certified guides. Individuals must pass the appropriate level of "guide" assessment in order to become a PCGI certified guide. Passing just the Rescue Assessment component does not provide any level of certification, but is one of the pre-requisites for entering the PCGI Single Pitch Guide Assessment or PCGI Multi-Pitch Guide Assessment. PCGI and PCGI approved mentors and assessors also take pre-requisites very seriously. Individuals who fail to meet pre-requisites will be dismissed and/or not allowed enrollment from/in courses or assessments. No refunds will be issued for students dismissed due to not meeting pre-requisites!
